ANGEL FIRE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Angel Fire Resort’s holiday reservations are up this year compared to the same period a year ago. Reservations at Angel Fire’s ski and snowboard school, rental shop, ticket office, and hotel bookings at The Lodge at Angel Fire, have seen a significant spike since early December storms started rolling through New Mexico. Officials are optimistic about the economic impact of good snow coupled with great timing. Angel Fire Resort opens for the 2011-2012 winter season this Thursday, December 15, with most of its mountain trails open and in ideal shape for skiers and boarders. With additional storms hitting the area this week, conditions are only expected to get better.
“People are seeing that northern New Mexico ski areas have better snow conditions right now than many of the mountains north of us that got it early last season,” explains Dave Dekema, director of marketing, Angel Fire Resort. “So far, this season is far surpassing what we saw this time last year. Our hope is to keep the snow coming and have a great time on the mountain this year.”
Angel Fire Resort has been busy with new expansions for the 2011-2012 ski and snowboard season. This season, the resort will open a brand new black diamond trail called C-4. Located in what was previously out-of-bounds territory north of the ski mountain, C-4 is a true challenge for the expert skier and a “bucket list” run on a bluebird powder day. From the top of the Southwest Flyer quad chairlift, skiers and snowboarders will hike 15 minutes to this isolated hiking-access only trail, which will be opened when snow conditions allow. The trail status for C-4, as for all Angel Fire ski runs, will be updated daily on the resort’s snow report.
The resort has also added a new Nordic Center for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Nordic Center is located at the $16 million Angel Fire Resort Country Club, creating a one-of-a-kind Nordic experience in northern New Mexico. The resort is also adding more than a dozen new freestyle features to its Terrain Park, reconfiguring jumps and transitions, adding a quarterpipe and a new feature area for those new to the sport of snowboarding.
