Boardwalk Inc. Will Start a New Service That Enables Overseas Fans to Purchase Tickets for Events in Japan with Mobile Phones

Boardwalk's Overseas Business Expansion is a First Step in its International Debut

Starting Saturday, December 10, 2011

TOKYO--()--Boardwalk Inc. (Head office: Shibuya, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akira Ichikawa) announced the overseas rollout of ticket board, a mobile ticketing service starting Saturday, December 10, 2011.

Launched in May of 2010 in Japan, ticket board is a ticketing service for entertainment business that has already achieved sales of over 500,000 tickets. For its first year of overseas operation, ticket board aims to have 2-3% of its total sales from international users.

With previous ticket sales methods, it was only possible to capture the ticket purchaser's data, but with ticket board, it is possible to create a database of all applicants including accompanying member and unsuccessful applicants. According to Boardwalk's research, ticket purchasers buy two tickets per person on average*, revealing the importance of being able to ascertain customer information beyond that of the purchaser.

By utilizing a mobile ticketing system, ticket board is able to capture and uniformly manage data for all event attendees, as they need to complete membership registration when downloading the digital ticket. Therefore, promotional activities via mobile phone directed to each and every fan will give rise to a new business flow – from specialized promotional launches, to digital content distribution and merchandise sales – before and after the event. It also has the effect of physically preventing ticket scalping since the mobile phone itself becomes the ticket.

According to a global mobile phone market survey conducted by Juniper Research in March of 2011, concert tickets and entertainment merchandise/service tickets purchased via smartphones worldwide is on the rise with over 2 billion sales in 2010. The report projects the global mobile ticket market to expand to 15 billion tickets by 2014. Moreover, Billboard reported that 76% of concert-goers purchase their tickets online, with only 6% buying at the ticket booths. As such, worldwide demand for online ticketing is very high.

With the international debut of ticket board, Boardwalk strives to rollout progressive and useful services to consumers.
