SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SimplyHired.com®, the world’s largest job search engine, today released its second annual Today’s Job Seeker Report summarizing the results of more than 100 user polls conducted on www.SimplyHired.com. The survey provides the industry’s most comprehensive picture of both job seekers and the job search process—including job seeker interests, behaviors and motivations.
“The slow recovery of our economy has changed the way job seekers look for jobs as well as what they look for in the work they choose,” said Gautam Godhwani, co-founder and chief executive officer, SimplyHired.com. “Today’s job seekers rely more heavily on social networking and referrals to find a job. In addition, job seekers are looking for more than just financial security—they prefer jobs that fit their personal requirements, whether that means location, benefits or even the company’s recycling policy.”
Here are some highlights:
- 51 percent of workers have been hired through a friend’s referral
- Of those who use social networks in their job search, LinkedIn is the most effective (54 percent), followed by Facebook (22 percent)
- 82 percent of job seekers would rather find a lower-paying job they love than a higher-paying job they don’t like
- 41 percent of parents would prefer to work full-time, even if money and childcare were not issues
- 18 percent of new graduates have a job lined up upon graduation
