Data Center World Spring 2012

ORANGE, Calif.--()--AFCOM, the world's leading data center association, today announced it is now accepting nominations in its annual “Data Center Manager of the Year” competition. AFCOM’s Data Center Manager of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership and excellence in the field of data center management.

The recipient of the Data Manager of the Year award will have qualities that embody innovation, organization, versatility and ambition. He or she will be an effective leader, run a highly efficient data center, work well under pressure, possess strong communication skills and keep up-to-date on the latest technologies in order to maintain his or her company’s edge. The online nomination form can be found here: http://www.datacenterworld.com/data-center-manager-of-the-year/.

Submissions will be accepted through December 13, 2011, and the winner will be announced at the Data Center World conference, set to be held at the Mirage Hotel and Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 18–22.

To qualify, nominees must be currently managing a large-scale data center facility and have at least five years of experience in the field of data center management. Nominators should include specific details about the qualities of the nominee that make him/her stand out as a true innovator and leader in this industry. The winner will be recognized at the upcoming Data Center World conference; interviewed and highlighted in the May/June issue of the official AFCOM magazine, Data Center Management; and automatically be placed on the panel of judges for Data Center Manager of the Year 2013.

The 2011 Data Center Manager of the Year was Tom Roberts, Manager, Data Center Facilities, Trinity Information Services. Roberts was recognized for implementing a hot/cold aisle containment approach into his data centers, which resulted in a 10 percent decrease in utility consumption. Roberts also makes ongoing efforts to educate “server and network folks” about facilities management, and to foster understanding and innovation.

“The Data Center Manager of the Year Award is a prestigious award because it is decided in large part by a peer group of IT professionals who have an intimate understanding of the problems facing this industry,” said Jill Yaoz, CEO of AFCOM. “From shrinking budgets and expanding roles to capacity and bandwidth problems, we are looking to celebrate the most innovative ways data center managers are solving all of the complex issues they address daily at work.”

For more than 30 years, Data Center World has been the largest global event of its kind and has been named one of the 50 fastest growing tradeshows in the U.S. It is often regarded as the premier networking and educational event by data center managers and industry professionals. Highlights during this five day conference include:

  • Keynote Session, “Leading Change and the Challenges of Transformation” by Vivek Kundra, the first Chief Information Officer for the United States.
  • Virtual Data Center Tours of Brocade’s new Silicon Valley facility and University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ completed project that was six years in the making.
