SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Edgewater Networks today announced the availability of two new enterprise session border controllers in the company’s EdgeMarc series – the EdgeMarc 4604 and the EdgeMarc 4576. These systems deliver greater analog port density and increased performance to effectively address the critical need for Service Providers to have a single solution that can scale from small to large enterprise environments. The Edgewater Networks SIP trunking solution now includes enterprise session border controllers capable of connecting PBXs with Ethernet, dual PRI or up to 24 FXS analog interfaces. These systems along with support by Edgewater’s EdgeView VoIP Support System and compliance with Edgewater’s SIP trunking interoperability lab represent a powerful solution that reduce capital and operational expense for Service Providers.

“SIP trunking is no longer seen as just a cost-cutting measure,” said Hyoun Park, Research Analyst for Collaboration and Integrated Communications at the Aberdeen Group. “It is also associated with greater scalability, more reliable availability, and improved service quality for enterprise communications. To deliver true business-class SIP trunking services, providers cannot simply provide point solutions that ignore interoperability, security or other key business value propositions. They must provide complete solutions including the abilities to provision services in a time and cost effective manner, work across multiple environments, ensure business continuity and provide ongoing diagnostics to troubleshoot both voice and video.”

The EdgeMarc 4604 is the ideal platform for SIP trunking services. It provides many important features including SIP protocol mediation for broad interoperability, an Integrated Access Device (IAD) and gateway functionality, survivability, QoS, security and network troubleshooting capabilities. These features enable Service Providers to easily connect enterprise PBXs to their SIP trunking infrastructure and provide a consistent signaling interface at the customer premises that reduces the overall cost of service delivery.

Specifications include 24 x FXS ports, 2 x FXO ports, 4 x T1/E1 interfaces (including 2 x PRI), 4 x 10/100 Mbps Managed Ethernet LAN switch, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet WAN interface, 2 x USB ports and a V.90 modem. Key features include support for up to 80 concurrent WAN calls, connectivity for up to 24 analog trunks or stations, two FXO ports for survivability with PSTN failover and PRI interfaces for connections to existing TDM PBX systems. U.S. list pricing for the EdgeMarc 4604 ranges from $2,750 to $3,710 depending on configuration.

The EdgeMarc 4576 is a versatile system that replaces standalone IADs and is used to connect PBX, key systems and analog phones to SIP trunking services, as well as connecting branch and remote offices to data center communications systems. It combines 24 analog telephone ports and multiple voice and data features into a single, easy to use enterprise session border controller.

The 4576 provides 24 x FXS ports,10/100 Mbps Ethernet WAN interface, a 4 x 10/100 Mbps Managed Ethernet LAN switch and 2 x USB ports. Key features include support for up to 24 concurrent WAN calls and connectivity for up to 24 analog trunks or stations. U.S. list pricing for the EdgeMarc 4576 is $1,895.

Deployed by service providers offering SIP trunking services to their enterprise customers, or directly by enterprises, the 4604 and 4576 are a part the existing family of EdgeMarc series ESBCs that address the challenges to the secure and reliable delivery of Unified Communications.

“Our customers have been using the Edgewater solution to profitably deliver SIP trunking services with high reliability,” said David G. Norman, Chief Executive Officer of Edgewater Networks, Inc. “We designed the EdgeMarc 4604 and 4576 in response to direct requests by our customers to create an EdgeMarc capable of supporting their larger enterprise analog PBX deployments. This enables them to use a complete solution from a single vendor to further reduce their operational expenses.”

The EdgeMarc 4604 and 4576 have been added to Edgewater’s SIP trunking interoperability lab. These models can now be included in certification testing with leading PBX and communications systems using a combination of Ethernet, FXS and PRI interfaces. The SIP trunking interoperability lab is a part of the Edgewater Networks’ Plug & Dial Alliance program and is used to formally validate and document the proper operation of PBX systems with increasingly popular SIP trunking services using the EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controller.

The EdgeMarc 4604 and 4576 are fully compatible with the EdgeView VoIP Support System and EdgeView Reports Server. Service Provider and enterprise customers use these products to reduce their overall operational costs through auto-provisioning, VoIP performance monitoring and diagnostic tools that enable operations personnel to quickly identify and resolve network impairments that negatively affect call quality.

The EdgeMarc suite of Enterprise Session Border Controllers act as a demarcation point for hosted PBX and SIP trunking services to reduce costs while improving call quality, security, and the end-user experience. They provide all of the features needed to deliver business class VoIP services to the enterprise including:

  • A VoIP and video aware NAT/Firewall
  • Protocol mediation for interoperability of VoIP and video devices
  • Active VoIP line testing
  • Call quality monitoring
  • Survivability
  • Quality of Service Management

EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controllers are part of a comprehensive Edgewater Networks solution that includes EdgeConnect managed Ethernet switches, the EdgeView VoIP Support System and EdgeView Reports. EdgeConnect switches are ideal for converged voice, video and data networks and the EdgeView VoIP Support system is used to troubleshoot network impairments that negatively affect VoIP quality. EdgeView is also used to manage IP phones, switches and other devices as well as automate provisioning using a customer-self installation model for many types of hosted service offerings. EdgeView Reports provides network operators with valuable performance information needed to properly maintain today's converged networks.
