HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CEC), a non-profit electric distribution cooperative serving North Central Ohio, has selected the ADTRAN Total Access 5000 with integrated Optical Networking Edge (ONE) as the foundation for its new 166 mile fiber network built with its RUS middle mile broadband stimulus award. CEC will leverage the integrated multi-service delivery and packet optical transport infrastructure to deliver a 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) solution for smart grid monitoring among its 16 power substations for more effective and efficient energy usage within its power network. The CEC ENLITE fiber optic network with 20 point-of-presence locations will also deliver wholesale Carrier Ethernet and 10G wavelength services for CLECs, mobile operators and Tier 2/Tier 3 service providers looking to extend high speed data, voice and video services in Central Ohio.
ADTRAN ONE is a MEF certified solution enabling CEC to efficiently deliver and aggregate 1G and 10G Carrier Ethernet services based on resilient Ethernet multi-ring implementation and also offer transparent multi-service delivery over an optical transport network (OTN). Total Access 5000 provides many options for broadband access that include GPON, Active Ethernet, as well as legacy technologies. As a multi-service access platform which includes integrated packet optical transport solution, ADTRAN ONE delivers unmatched services reach and scalability. In addition, CEC will enjoy operational efficiency, total lower network ownership cost, and future proof capabilities, all while providing a critical offering for service providers who are facing fiber exhaust in the region. This will now allow local, regional and national service providers to bring media rich, high-bandwidth services to business and residential customers that are essential to the economic growth of the region moving forward.
“We believe broadband plays a key role in rural development and is a vital infrastructure component in attracting and stimulating economic development,” said Doug Payauys, CIO and vice president of information systems, Consolidated Electric Cooperative. “ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 was the only solution we evaluated that could deliver Carrier Ethernet, legacy transport, multiple access technologies and WDM in a single platform.”
“The flexibility and scalability of the Total Access 5000 ONE solution provides carriers virtually unlimited transport needed to support a wide variety of applications and services, including Smart Grid and traditional network migration deployments,” said Mitch Fleming, regional vice president, service provider sales, ADTRAN. “For CEC, that means they are able to offer all the bandwidth needed in central Ohio to support CLECs, mobile operators, and Tier 2 and 3 service providers looking to grow the services their community requires for future economic growth.”
