Public Transport Authority Adopts Mincom’s Next-Generation Solution for Enterprise Asset Management and Enterprise Resource Planning

Public transport provider continues to support reliability, safety and productivity of its buses, ferries and trains with Mincom Ellipse 8 solution for asset, work management and field enablement

AusRAIL Plus 2011

BRISBANE, Australia--()--Mincom Transit Forum, AusRAIL Plus 2011 — Mincom, now part of ABB and a leading global provider of software and services to asset-intensive industries, today announced a significant new contract with the Public Transport Authority (PTA) of Western Australia.

Under the agreement, Mincom will support a substantial upgrade of the asset-management processes of the PTA, which provides integrated road, rail and ferry services in the greater metropolitan area of Perth (the State capital), as well as rail and coach services throughout regional Western Australia.

By upgrading to Mincom Ellipse 8, one of the industry’s most modern, mobile-enabled Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions for asset-intensive businesses, the PTA can optimize its asset-management processes, which will help to minimize asset failures and improve productivity.

Mincom Ellipse 8 will also integrate with PTA’s Geographical Information System (GIS), delivering full geospatial visibility of its assets and significantly enhancing decision-making capabilities. By geo-tagging assets and events in order to detect patterns and dispatch resources, conditions observed in the field can be quickly and reliably shared, enabling the organization to respond more quickly to delays and interruptions, and bring services back online quickly.

“With thousands of people relying on our assets every day to get them to their destinations safely, it is essential we adopt powerful asset-management technology based on modern best practices,” said Kevin Kirk, executive director, finance and contracts at the PTA. “Upgrading to Mincom Ellipse 8 enables us to further improve our administrative processes, capital spending and project budgeting by consolidating data to achieve a single source of information about our assets.”

The PTA’s asset-management processes will be further enhanced through its adoption of the Mincom Mobility field-enablement solution, which extends asset management and business processes into the field, where the work is being performed. By implementing mobile applications, such as Mincom Mobile Inspector and Mobile Worker, as well as the Mincom Permit to Work safety solution, PTA can connect its asset maintenance workers directly to critical business systems in the field using mobile devices such as laptops, tablets and PDAs.

“With more than 30 years of experience serving asset-intensive industries, Mincom understands the critical nature of transit businesses responsible for managing many different types of assets across multiple modes of transport – from fixed assets and equipment to buses, ferries, trains and railway infrastructure,” said John Moran, Mincom’s regional vice president of public infrastructure. “We’re pleased to expand upon our 20-year partnership with the PTA to ensure the agency continues to leverage best practices, maximizing the value of its assets while ensuring the safety of its passengers and workers.”

Mincom Ellipse is one of the most comprehensive EAM and ERP solutions designed expressly for industries with asset-intensive operating environments, such as transportation. Mincom Ellipse provides companies in asset-heavy industries with a fully integrated and mobile-enabled suite of business-critical applications that improves return on assets, while also addressing the challenges inherent in remote and geographically dispersed operations that distinguish these industries from corporate-office environments.
