ClipperCreek, Under Contract by California Energy Commission, Hits Milestone Upgrading Existing Infrastructure in California

ClipperCreek Products are manufactured in Auburn, CA USA

AUBURN, Calif.--()--ClipperCreek, Inc. announced today that it shipped its 100th electric vehicle charger as part of a program to upgrade existing EV infrastructure in California. The program, lead by ClipperCreek, is designed to upgrade more than half of the outdated charging stations in California.

“ClipperCreek has maximized the job creation opportunity of this program for the State of California,” said Jason France, ClipperCreek CEO. “We assemble the product in Auburn from substantially all California based sources and our installation subcontractor, EV Connect of Culver City, CA, utilizes local electrical contractors to perform all the installations.”

The majority of the project is funded by the California Energy Commission. Funds are allocated to updating legacy charging stations with units built to new safety and communications standards with some existing technology chargers left in place to accommodate current EV drivers.

“The California Energy Commission awarded Clipper Creek $2.3 million to update more than 600 EV charging stations throughout the State,” said Energy Commission Vice Chair James Boyd. “The more charging stations we have, the more likely Californians will consider buying electric-powered vehicles. Projects like this use funds from the Commission's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program to create jobs, support local businesses, and help the state move away from its dependence on petroleum.”

“We are keeping the costs as low as possible on this installation program,” said Will Barrett, ClipperCreek program manager. “Including installation and hardware these units are costing the state less than $3,000 each.”

ClipperCreek is working with its partners Tom Dowling of EAA and EV Connect of Culver City, CA. ClipperCreek estimates the project will be completed by summer 2012 and will upgrade about 60% of the existing infrastructure.

Owners of existing public charging stations may contact ClipperCreek about having their location upgraded free of charge as part of this program.
