Shanghai Shibei Industrial Park (Shanghai Shibei IP) rated Bby China Knowledge. The industrial park was set up in 1992 upon receiving approval from the Planning Committee of the Shanghai municipal government. It was authorized by the State Development and Reform Committee to be a municipal-level development zone in 2006. The Shibei IP is located in Zhabei District in the northern part of Shanghai. The area of the park is 1.3 sq km.
The park can draw from a large talent pool. Located in the downtown area of Shanghai, the park is near Fudan University, Shanghai University, and Hubei College and Xingjian College of Tongji University. In 2009, Shanghai Shibei IP renamed as Shanghai Shibei High-tech Industrial Development Zone. (Shanghai Shibei HIDZ).
Shanghai Shibei HIDZ focuses on the development of the electronics and telecommunications industries. It also encourages investment in R&D, information technology, biochemicals, and other high-tech industries.
By the end of Nov 2010, the gross industrial output from the park topped RMB4.89 billion. The contracted FDI in the zone totaled US$80 million in 2010. 32 new foreign-funded projects had been launched in the zone in 2010. Major investors include AAE Express and Kohler from the U.S., Sumitomo from Japan and Angolo Po from Italy. Several big domestic companies, including China Railway Group, have also established a presence in the park. In Jan and Feb 2011, the contracted FDI reached US$249 million.
Industrial parks rated B are viewed as poorly established. Much effort is necessary for the creation of an attractive investment environment in these parks. There are 45 with B' rating among the 254 national or municipal-level industrial parks located across the country.
