DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/d56cb4/united_kingdom_pha) has announced the addition of Business Monitor International's "United Kingdom Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Report Q4 2011" report to their extensive offering of pharmaceutical and healthcare market research publications.
Business Monitor International's (BMI) United Kingdom Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, pharmaceutical associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on United Kingdom's pharmaceuticals and healthcare industry.
In July 2011, Southern Cross, the UK's biggest care home operator, ceased to exist. The company announced it was closing down after the landlords owning all 752 of its care homes said they wanted to leave the group as it was unable to pay the rent on the homes. The company's rent payments rose by 2.5% in 2011, at a time when local authorities - its primary source of income - cut their social care spending by about 10%, reducing the number of placements and the amount they could pay for those placements.
BMI Economic View: Having lagged most other developed states during the recovery, the UK economy is sputtering. That said, for the time being we still believe the economy is traversing a soft patch' rather than staring into the jaws of recession. As we have stressed before, the recovery was never going to be linear, with deleveraging and economic rebalancing pressure, combined with a severe fiscal austerity drive, ensuring that output volatility will remain elevated.
BMI Political View: The UK faces its most uncertain period in at least a generation as the Conservative- Liberal Democrat coalition presses ahead with fiscal cuts and constitutional reform - both of which will test their ability to work with one another. We see a variety of scenarios ahead, ranging from rapidly shifting governments to stable coalitions, as well as the possibility of electoral reform. Regardless of which party is in power, the government will have to make spending cuts if it wants to avoid a fiscal crisis this decade.
