SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ:SRSL), the industry leader in surround sound, audio enhancement, and voice post-processing technologies, announced today that its advanced SRS 5.1™ surround sound technology for streaming services has been selected as the surround sound solution of choice by OnLive to deliver a remarkably immersive gaming audio experience to their new United Kingdom customer base. SRS 5.1 surround sound is an end-to-end surround sound technology solution for content creation, transmission and consumption and is designed to be highly efficient, format-agnostic, effortless to deploy and easy to manage.
“We find our partnership with OnLive quite fulfilling and are excited that our SRS 5.1 surround sound technology will now enable OnLive’s UK-based customers to experience their favorite games in surround sound,” said Allen Gharapetian, Senior Vice President of Marketing for SRS Labs. “OnLive is one of the most innovative cloud-based services yet to be deployed and we believe that their purpose-built gaming service provides an ideal platform for our surround sound encoding technologies. Whether connecting to OnLive via a PC, Mac®, tablet or a TV through the OnLive console, all gamers will love the more immersive and lifelike experience when playing their favorite video games in surround sound.”
SRS 5.1 surround sound does not require a proprietary decoder for the receiving device and requires no extra bandwidth as it piggybacks on normal stereo transmission. This provides OnLive with the right tool to create and deliver true, high-quality streamed surround sound encoded content across any device that can tap into a broadband network. Because millions of TVs, A/V receivers, PCs and mobile devices today feature one or more SRS audio solutions such as Circle Surround®, TheaterSound™, StudioSound HD™, TruSurround® and Premium Sound™, every one of these CE devices are natively equipped with the capability to decode SRS 5.1 surround encoded content, resulting in a “surround everywhere” entertainment experience. Additionally, gamers not hooked up to a surround sound system, or not using an SRS-equipped device, will still receive an enhanced stereo mix.
“We are dedicated to delivering the most desirable gaming experience possible and we strongly believe that nothing makes a video game come to life more than playing that game in surround sound,” said Steve Perlman, Founder and CEO of OnLive. “Last January, we selected SRS as our surround sound partner and have since been working very closely with them to ensure that our customers in the U.S. and now the UK receive the most impressive audio experience possible from OnLive, regardless of the type of device they use or speaker systems they have connected to it.”
