National Safety Council and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Renew Partnership Agreement

PHILADELPHIA--()--Today, the National Safety Council and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have renewed their collaborative partnership. At a ceremony held in conjunction with the 2011 NSC Congress & Expo, Janet Froetscher, NSC president and CEO, and Dr. John Howard, director of NIOSH, signed the agreement to continue to work together to improve safety and health conditions in workplaces throughout the United States.

“We value the partnership of the National Safety Council in working together to identify and seize opportunities to prevent work-related injuries,” Dr. Howard said. “Occupational safety is a vital strategy that benefits workers, their families and communities, and businesses alike.”

NSC and NIOSH will work cooperatively to provide evaluation research, communication, and occupational safety and health professional development opportunities. This will include disseminating information through their websites, participating in key conferences where occupational safety and health is addressed, validating research findings, and educating business leaders on the humanistic and economic impact of occupational safety and health.

“Using the collaborative efforts and expertise each of our organizations can provide will help to better advance the protection of workers, promote best practices, and encourage more employers to develop and use safety management systems,” Froetscher said. “It is an honor to continue to work alongside NIOSH to promote effective prevention strategies and save lives.”

NIOSH and NSC will meet periodically to share information, reassess and modify partnership activities, and evaluate results. This partnership renewal, unless otherwise extended, will continue through December 2013.

The NSC Congress & Expo is the largest annual gathering of safety and health professionals. Dr. Howard is participating in the Occupational Keynote Session, Safety Management Systems – An Emerging Federal Agency Priority.
