INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, FreedomWorks PAC officially endorses Richard Mourdock in the Indiana Senate race as the clear choice for voters who are for free markets, fiscal responsibility, and constitutionally limited government.
Through in-depth one-on-one discussions with Richard Mourdock, a detailed look at his record and, most importantly, from listening to what our members and allies in Indiana have to say, FreedomWorks PAC believes Richard Mourdock is the best candidate for those who want a Senator who will fight on behalf of taxpayers against runaway government spending and federal overreach.
“Over the past few months we have been speaking with our Indiana members and allies, including those affiliated with the Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate, and two things are clear: they want Richard Mourdock to be their Senator and they are going to do the hard work necessary to make it happen,” said Max Pappas, Executive Director of FreedomWorks PAC.
“We have heard from hundreds of citizen-leaders from every corner of the state—from White County to Allen County to Pike County, from Lee County to Marion County to Washington County—encouraging us to support Mourdock. They describe Mourdock as ‘a small government conservative with faith in our founding principles’, saying ‘[he] will be one of the most intelligent and honest Senators that Washington has ever seen’. Hoosiers tell us Mourdock ‘stands for a fiscally sound government,’ is ‘a fighter for Indiana values’, is ‘well informed on the issues’ and that ‘Richard Mourdock has always put Indiana first.’ This feedback confirms everything we’ve see in Richard Mourdock since he spoke at our historic 9/12/09 Taxpayer March on Washington,” continued Pappas.
The first step to get Richard Mourdock elected is winning the Republican primary against Richard Lugar. Lugar, a 34-year incumbent, has for too long been voting to spend too much and to expand the federal government too far beyond its Constitutional limits. Lugar has been voting for bailouts for decades, voting to bail out New York City in the 1970s, to bailout out the car makers in 1979 and 2009, for housing bailouts in 1983 and 2008, and for the Wall Street Bailout three years ago. His long, long record shows Lugar has been voting for major tax increases for decades and against even the smallest of spending cuts. He even voted against cutting the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in 2005. At a time when so many see ObamaCare as an overreach, Lugar has supported an individual mandate to buy insurance and has voted repeatedly to expand federal health care entitlements over the years.
We intend to work with our allies in the state, including the Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate, providing the tools they’ll need to win. Mourdock has always been a reliable, consistent supporter of limited government principles, and he proved his commitment to fiscal responsibility as Indiana’s State Treasurer. He will be a powerful voice in the Senate on behalf of core limited government issues, and his leadership in combating the big government agenda of the establishment will be critical to FreedomWorks’ overarching mission to “Take America Back” on behalf of freedom. As a signer of the Contract from America, a list of policy priorities generated by the votes of hundreds of thousands of tea party activists across the country, Mourdock continues to show that he will stand up and fight for free markets, constitutionally limited government, and fiscal responsibility.
