KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today at the Intelligent Transportation Show in Orlando Florida, Perceptics LLC announced their new DOT Number Reader system designed to automate the collection of DOT numbers as part of measures to improve the amount of inspections made by officers at weigh stations. State troopers managing weigh stations manually enter commercial vehicle DOT and motor carrier data into software designed to search state and federal databases for inspection infractions or expired licenses. Manual data entry processes tie up valuable enforcement resources, lowering the amount of inspections that officers can conduct while causing significant traffic congestion. “These traffic back-ups are frequent, forcing weigh stations to temporarily close until the backlog of trucks can move through,” says Perceptics’ director of sales and marketing, Adam Nelson. “As such, operational up-time and the amount of inspections being conducted have a tendency to be low,” Nelson continues.
The DOT Number Reader integrated with the License Plate Reader system empowers officers with automated data transfer processes to conduct nationwide searches, looking for a broader range of enforcement opportunities. Operations uptime is greatly increased so officers can concentrate on enforcement opportunities while keeping traffic moving. Adam Nelson remarks, “We fully expect weigh stations to realize decreased costs in labor and increased enforcement revenues in their jurisdictions.”
