Providence Health & Services Selects Passport to Provide Payer Eligibility Services

Payer Connectivity Gives Providence Health & Services Secure Exchange of Patient Eligibility Data within The Epic Enterprise Registration Workflow

FRANKLIN, Tenn.--()--Passport Health Communications Inc., a leader in healthcare revenue cycle management through Software-as-a-Service products, announced that Providence Health & Services, a 27 hospital not-for-profit system that serves communities spanning five states, has selected payer eligibility connectivity services from Passport’s eCare™ NEXT Patient Access solution. The solution enables hospitals and clinics to access integrated payer eligibility information at point of service from within their Epic Enterprise Registration workflow and also through preservice daily batch formats. Users also are able to use an automated financial screen tool that produces a fair and accurate up-front determination of a patient’s Medicaid and charity eligibility.

Having the ability to access a functionally rich single user interface for payer connectivity directly from their registration screens means patient access representatives will be able to immediately identify patients needing further financial counseling assistance at time of their inpatient service registration. Additionally, the continuous ability to get real time payer updates throughout and after the hospital stay, gives staff the ability to know which accounts need attention quickly.

Patient Access department staff for high volume patient clinics greatly benefit from receiving batch access to eligibility information for future scheduled patients prior to service. This will enable more accurate collection of copays and deductible amounts from patients. Staff previously needing to make multiple phone calls and filling out follow up paper work as the best means to reach payers for information, will now have more time to focus on other issues that need human attention.

“Large health care systems with multiple locations need to be able to identify correct payer information prior, during, and even after services are given to patients, in order to reduce AR days and improve cash flow,” said Passport Chief Executive Officer Scott MacKenzie. “Our software solutions are designed to help health systems meet their goals to continue to build a more efficient, error-free Patient Access process and create an even more “patient friendly” health system at the front end of patient care wherever it occurs in the organization, while raising the certainty of payment to the organization."

Passport offers a unique strength in the industry through its ability to provide optimal integration and connectivity within the workflow of any of the current information systems in use at the organization. By placing benefit information in expected and more useful locations for providers, Passport solves the dilemma of disparate eligibility response data received from payers. Users are able to consistently find payer response data elements without searching in different places payer by payer.
