PathCentral, Inc. Appoints Todd S. Barry, M.D., Ph.D. Medical Director

IRVINE, Calif.--()--PathCentral, Inc., the first and only company focused exclusively on the success of the community pathologist, announced today the appointment of Todd Barry, M.D., Ph.D., to the post of Medical Director.

Dr. Barry brings nearly 15 years of professional experience to the company, having previously served as a hematopathologist and medical director at Clarient (now GE) and director of molecular pathology and hematopathology at PhenoPath Laboratories.

Over the course of his career Dr. Barry has developed substantial expertise in the diagnosis of hematologic malignancies, such as leukemia and lymphoma, as well as non-hematologic malignancies, with a particular focus on breast cancer. He has extensive experience with a wide variety of clinical laboratory technologies, including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, fluorescence in situ hybridization, polymerase chain reaction, and DNA sequencing, and is credited with numerous related publications and lectures.

In his role as medical director, Dr. Barry will serve as the PathCentral’s senior clinical officer, establishing and maintaining strict laboratory quality and patient safety standards and overseeing the company’s continuous quality improvement programs. He will also be the primary clinical liaison with PathCentral’s customers.

A resident of Mission Viejo, Calif., Dr. Barry, 48, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. and received both his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) degrees in Immunology from Duke University in Durham, N.C. He completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. During his last year of residency, he served as Chief Resident in Laboratory Medicine and was the Acting Hematopathology Fellow working closely with Drs. Brent Wood and Steve Kussick. Following residency training, Dr. Barry finished a one-year Surgical Pathology/Immunohistochemistry fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Barry completed two years of Hematopathology fellowship training at the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD with Drs. Elaine Jaffe, Stefania Pittaluga, and Mark Raffeld. Dr. Barry has a broad research background and is a well-published author with many peer-review publications in areas including hematopathology, immunohistochemistry, and breast cancer. He has authored several book chapters and has delivered numerous lectures on behalf of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, American Society of Clinical Pathology, College of American Pathologist Foundation and been an invited speaker for several State and International Pathology Societies. He is a member of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society; Society for Hematopathology; American Society of Clinical Pathologists; American Society of Hematology; Arthur Purdy Stout Society; Association for Molecular Pathology; College of American Pathologists; United States College of American Pathologists; and Washington State Society of Pathologists.
