PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 2011 Soldier Ride National Tour sponsored by GEICO will be in Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 22, with a start time of 9 a.m. at Rodeo Park, 1590 E. Lost Dutchman Blvd. Apache Junction, Ariz. Registration begins at 7 a.m.
People may sign up as individuals or as teams to ride in the event, and they may also join the crowd from the sidelines with the GEICO Gecko to cheer on the riders. For additional information, go to soldierride.org.
This one-day cycling event encourages the public to honor the nation’s wounded veterans battling the physical and psychological effects of war. Soldier Ride has proven itself to be a good opportunity for the public to support the men and women of the U.S. military by participating in the event or joining spectators along the ride route.
One of the recent riders wrote, “It was a great feeling participating with fellow men and women who had similar injuries from war. I cannot thank Wounded Warrior Project and Soldier Ride enough for all of the help and positive encouragement leading up to and during the event.”
“Military personnel have been an important part of our business since our company was founded in 1936,” said Michael Baker, GEICO director of military marketing. “It is our honor to partner with Wounded Warrior Project in support of the noble men and women serving our country.”
GEICO began serving military personnel and their families 75 years ago when the company was first founded in Washington, D.C. It now operates a Military Service Center in Virginia Beach, Va., staffed by former military and dedicated solely to helping meet the needs of active military, those deployed and their families.
Recently GEICO created HomeFront as a way for service men and women stationed around the country and around the world to help stay connected to their families and friends. HomeFront provides a photo and video sharing feature and a common calendar so that military members can keep up with their family’s and friends’ activities at home. HomeFront operates via an app for desktop or mobile devices.

The October 22 Soldier Ride in Phoenix will be followed by a community picnic and entertainment for riders and participants.
