DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/13ccf9/thailand_tourism_r) has announced the addition of the "Thailand Tourism Report Q4 2011" report to their offering.
BMI's Thailand Tourism Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, tourism associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Thailands's tourism industry.
Tourist arrivals continued to pick up in the second quarter of the year, building on strong growth in the first quarter. Tourist arrivals totalled 4.35mn in the second quarter, an increase of an impressive 50% year-on-year (y-o-y). Growth in this quarter was so strong because it represented a statistical rebound from Q210, when political turmoil in Thailand virtually shut down the tourist industry between April and May. Yet even with this statistical effect, 4.35mn is the largest Q2 growth since 2006, indicating that the country's tourist industry has returned to a growth path.
The formation of a new government in Thailand should also provide support for the tourist industry, with the election of new Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra boding well for a return to political stability. That said, the weakening economic environment, particularly in the US, may weigh on the industry, despite improving domestic fundamentals.
Orient Thai, formerly one of the major competitors for national carrier Thai Airways, is planning a recovery strategy to allow it to regain some of the ground it has lost during the increasing competition in the airline sector. The airline plans to buy 12 Boeing aircraft by the end of 2012 to replace its ageing McDonnell Douglas aircraft.
Thailand's most eastern province, Trat, has traditionally been a focus for local and regional tourism, but is becoming increasingly popular with international tourists.
