NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New York Life Foundation, the charitable arm of New York Life Insurance Company, today announced the launch of AChildInGrief.com, a comprehensive, user-friendly Web site for parents, families and educators to support bereaved children.
“As a company with a proud history of helping others, we are fully committed to providing grieving children and their families the tools necessary to help cope with a death,” said Chris Park, president, New York Life Foundation. “Through our research and support of childhood bereavement programs, we saw an urgent need for this site. Many adults don’t know where to turn to help children on their grief journey, and we hope they will use this Web site to become educated or get connected to the additional resources they need.”
More than one in seven young Americans lose a parent or sibling before age 20, and the emotional and financial upheaval in their lives can be severe, according to the National Alliance for Grieving Children. Parents who have lost a loved one report that the loss is overwhelming and that there aren't enough resources to help grieving parents or children, according to preliminary results from a new survey conducted by the New York Life Foundation and the National Alliance for Grieving Children.
The Web site features sections for parents and family members, as well as educators who work with bereaved children. Parents and family members will find personal stories, essays and resources that can help them navigate a loss. Educators, through relevant stories, readings and videos, can learn how to assist a student going through a loss. Visitors also have access to a state-by-state list of local support services and links to other national resources, including bereavement guides and kits created by the New York Life Foundation and Sesame Workshop.
