Metagenics® Presents Seminars on the Role of Metabolic Detoxification for the Management of Chronic Illnesses

Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., Leader in the Field of Nutritional Medicine, and Bridget Briggs, M.D., Will Present the Latest Clinical Applications of a Healthy Metabolic Detoxification Program

GIG HARBOR, Wash.--()--As part of the Metagenics University 2011 International Education Series, Metagenics, Inc., a nutrigenomics and lifestyle medicine company, will present a leading-edge program, “21st Century Advances in Detoxification for the Management of Chronic Illness” on Oct. 15 in Bellevue, Wash. and Nov. 5 in Boston, Mass. Both events will be presented by Jeffrey Bland, Ph.D., FACN, CNS, Chief Science Officer for Metagenics, and Bridget Briggs, M.D., a board-certified family practitioner. The program in Bellevue will be simulcast for those who are unable to attend.

Dr. Bland and Dr. Briggs will explain how metabolic detoxification is not just a trend, but a health therapy that can benefit anyone that wants a healthier lifestyle. The buildup of toxins within the human body, such as chronic infections and bacteria can impact all body systems. In addition, the environment very likely plays a role in many common, chronic conditions such as immune dysfunction, type 2 diabetes, obesity, autism and others. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, industries release more than four billion pounds of toxic chemicals into the environment each year, making it imperative that healthcare practitioners consider environmental factors when addressing their patients’ healthcare needs.

“Long-term toxic exposure has been linked to chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia syndrome, leukemia, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” noted Dr. Bland. “Metabolic detoxification involves triggering a key biological process that can benefit anyone with the signs of toxic overload, including acne, rashes, headaches and muscle weakness among other ailments. These seminars will give the attendees the tools to understand how the human body can rid itself of damaging substances in a safe way and how to use metabolic detoxification in their practices.”

Attendees of the seminar will:

  • Understand the relationship between toxins and chronic illness.
  • Assess the impact of pollutants on patients.
  • Learn why a small concentration of a substance can have a large effect on physiology.
  • Discover which chronic diseases are not connected to toxin exposures.
  • Master nutritional protocols and learn practical clinical applications of a metabolic detoxification program for patients with excess toxic burden and for the management of chronic illness.
  • Lifestyle medicine therapies to support detoxification processes.

“A metabolic detoxification program should be closely supervised by a knowledgeable health care practitioner, and it should focus on getting the right calories versus drastically cutting calories, which is a feature in some popular detoxifications that encourage water fasting and juice cleanses,” said Dr. Briggs, who also specializes in integrative medicine. “This seminar will teach health care practitioners the clinical applications of metabolic detoxification that are heavily researched, safe and effective.”

Registration for each seminar is $149. Registration for the simulcast of the Bellevue, Wash. event is $49. Students may register at no charge for either seminar with a valid student ID.
