NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WIRED, with partner Gizmodo, tested and rated more than 400 apps for the first-ever WIRED App Guide. The special issue, on newsstands October 4, rates apps on the 10-point WIRED performance scale, noting ‘WIRED’ and ‘TIRED’ features, price and on which platforms each app is available. Later this month, the WIRED App Guide will also be available as an app for iOS and Android smartphones. The app version of the guide will feature regular updates plus reviews of new and noteworthy apps from the editors of WIRED.
Highlights include:
- 400 Apps reviewed in SEVEN categories: Social, Games, Lifestyle, News, Arts & Entertainment, Photography and Productivity
- The Top THREE editors’ picks in each category
- “The Essentials,” 18 APPS NO USER SHOULD BE WITHOUT, including Dropbox, Goodreader, Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Yelp and more
- “My Favorite Apps” from special guest reviewers
“The app universe continues to grow exponentially, and for most consumers it’s an unmanageable mess of hundreds of thousands of apps, with only marginally helpful attempts at organization and discovery,” says Chris Anderson, Editor in Chief of WIRED. “With our App Guide, we’re bringing some order to the chaos and embarking on an aggressive editorial push to make app reviews and recommendations a priority in the magazine and on Wired.com.”
The WIRED App Review Guide is available on newsstands for $10.99, and will also be available as an app for iOS and Android smartphones later this month.
