American Heart Association Honored at Sixth Annual Convio Client Summit

American Heart Association Recipient of Innovator Award in Best Team Event Category

BALTIMORE--()--Convio, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNVO) today presented the American Heart Association (AHA), devoted to saving people’s lives from heart disease and stroke, with an Innovator Award in the Best Team Event category for their successful Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart campaigns, which are national fundraising programs that promote physical activity, heart healthy living, and community service to children. All award winners will be recognized at an event tonight at Convio’s Client Summit, the company’s annual user conference where more than 1,000 nonprofit clients, partners and industry thought leaders gather as a community to share common experiences and effective strategies for nonprofits.

“It is very exciting to see our efforts and strategy pay off not only in our fundraising results, but also in this award,” said Leah Swanson, national youth market director at American Heart Association. “Our team worked very hard to make online our number one focus. We exceeded our ambitious goals and saw tremendous growth online, including total dollars raised and number of donations received.”

AHA’s Youth Market events have historically relied on offline fundraising. The Youth Market team wanted to convert more students into online fundraisers, ultimately reaching more prospective donors and boosting fundraising results. The team also needed to design a website and find online tools to engage kids ages 7-14.

Working in conjunction with Convio’s Strategy Practice, AHA made significant usability improvements to the events’ microsite, with a goal of making online registration and fundraising easier for students. To engage teachers, parents, and kids, new content areas were added to the site. Additionally, a series of fundraising and coaching emails were sent through Convio TeamRaiser™, and interactive virtual incentives—including personalized videos and eCards—were used to encourage students to promote their participation to family and friends.

The metrics from the innovative campaign exceeded AHA’s expectations.

Six other nonprofits received Innovator Awards in categories including Best Overall Use of Convio, Best Integrated/Multi-channel Campaign, Best Online Campaign, Best CRM Visionary/Use of Common Ground, Best Peer-to-Peer Campaign, and Best Use of New Media. All Convio clients were eligible to submit for the awards.

"The seven clients recognized this year epitomize innovation and are shining examples of true constituent engagement and how to maximize the value of every interaction they have with their supporters,” said Gene Austin, chief executive officer and president of Convio. “As the shift continues from traditional forms of engagement to a combination of traditional, digital and social channels, these organizations are on the front lines responding daily to the changing needs of donors, advocates, volunteers and anyone helping to advance their mission. We are proud to recognize their achievements and honored to support them in their continued success.”
