FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA), a leading provider of IT-based business solutions, including retail point of sale solutions, advanced technology products, biometric solutions, currency handling products, and digital media solutions, today announced the completion of the consolidation process for its North American light manufacturing, integration, staging, logistics and warehousing to Fujitsu’s North American Manufacturing and Integration Center in Plattsburgh, NY. The “Grand Re-Opening” Event at the Fujitsu Plattsburgh location starts at 9:30am, with welcome presentations, ribbon cutting ceremony, press conference and facility tours.
Announced in April, 2011, the completion of this milestone encompasses several operational groups within Fujitsu Frontech North America. The Fujitsu North American Manufacturing and Integration Center will primarily serve the Fujitsu Retail Solutions Group assembly and integration for its industry leading TeamPOS® point of sale terminals and U-SCAN® Genesis® self check-out solution. It will also support several other FFNA offerings, including XG-series Ethernet switches, currency handlers and recyclers, IP-series media solutions, PalmSecure™ solutions, and RFID solutions.
“It has been a significant undertaking to transition and consolidate such a large and critical aspect of our business,” said Yoshi Masuda, President of Fujitsu Frontech North America. “With the diligent efforts of our entire organization, we are proud to have met the aggressive timelines and managed to sustain our high levels of operation despite the ongoing changes to affected work areas. It is a testament to the planning and execution of the organization as a whole.”
The impact to the local Plattsburgh economy has also been significant, with more than 50 jobs created since April, expanded facilities for warehousing and logistics, as well as increased reliance on local vendors for shipping, supply and maintenance. As well, the ongoing support from local organizations has been important, from staffing assistance, negotiating long-term tenancy to building relationships with the regional technical school, CV-TEC, with whom Fujitsu chartered a scholarship fund in August.
“Fujitsu is a global powerhouse, a growing high-tech company. It’s great they recognize Plattsburgh is a place to invest in and grow their business. We have a skilled workforce, ideal location and superb economic development team. In these tough times, an announcement like this is rare. Clearly it speaks volumes about the strength of this company and the potential of this region,” stated New York State Senator Elizabeth Little. “When I met a few weeks ago with Mr. Masuda, President and CEO of Fujitsu Frontech North America, I was pleased to share with him our priority of creating a better business environment. Fujitsu is a job creator that is leading the way and I look forward to supporting their efforts in the months and years ahead.”
Fujitsu first came to Plattsburgh in 2004, when it acquired Optimal Robotics, a local technology producer of automated self check-out and point of sale equipment. Operations progressively expanded, with an increasing level of capability needed to meet market demand for Fujitsu’s leading solutions. In late 2010, working with local, community, state and Federal agencies and resources, Fujitsu examined the possibility of consolidating its West Coast manufacturing, integration and warehousing operation to Plattsburgh. The decision to consolidate was announced in April of this year.
“Consolidating our diverse array of manufacturing and operational areas, across such a distance, all while continuing to serve our customers needs was a total team effort,” said Dick Zarski, Sr. Vice President Manufacturing Operations for Fujitsu Frontech North America. “It actually extends past our team to include that of the Plattsburgh region, with the help of so many in the local government and business community. We are greatly appreciative of all their support and look forward to an ongoing positive relationship with the whole Plattsburgh region.”
The Fujitsu Grand Re-Opening event is scheduled for today at Fujitsu’s North American Manufacturing and Integration Center, 651 New York 3, Plattsburgh, NY 12901-653. Welcome presentations begin at 9:30am, ribbon cutting at 11:00am, followed by a press conference and facility tours. Attendance is by invitation only.
