CellStrat's Annual India Mobile Media Survey Report - 2009 is a powerhouse of mobile market intelligence in the Indian marketplace. Key Findings - The Mobile Opportunity in India
- 90% execs say that mobile represents the largest growth opportunity in India in the next five years.
- 80% execs think that mobile Media will influence content production, packaging, distribution and consumption.
- 65% firms use mobile as a digital media channel as it is a direct to consumer model and allows targeted messaging.
Accessing the internet on mobile is becoming faster and easier. In India, almost 88% of the executives (as per the survey) access web on their mobiles. 3G will further allow for mobile optimized web pages to load within a few seconds, almost equivalent to broadband internet access (in terms of the speed of page load).
In terms of marketing, only text is being used to introduce advertisers to mobile, almost as a taster for everything else mobile has to offer. About 85.2% executives said that when 3G comes in, mobile media uptake will accelerate in all segments. Mobile advertising will grow faster when 3G will be in place and as the mobile platform becomes a faster channel to deliver content.
Text-based ads are already being used and preferred by 50% of respondents and well across the spectrum of Indian executives, while banner-based ads are preferred only by 24% respondents due to inadequate band width. Both text and banner ads are still a very young area calling for a lot of improvement still. However, CellStrat is increasingly seeing creativity with mobile texts, banners and sponsorships.
