LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:MOH) announced today that Michael Steele has been named Senior Vice President of Dual Eligible Strategies. In his new role, Steele will be responsible for promoting and expanding Molina’s dual eligible care model. Dual eligibles are individuals who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
Steele has over 20 years of experience in the health care industry and has held several leadership positions including co-founder and chief executive officer of ElderHealth, which became Bravo Health and was later sold to HealthSpring. His experience also includes senior vice president at Travelers Health Company.
It is estimated that nine million beneficiaries who are eligible to receive both Medicare and Medicaid cost federal and state governments over $300 billion per year. Dual eligibles often experience a confusing, fragmented and inefficient medical and long-term supports and services (LTSS) delivery system. Molina currently serves dual eligible members with its Special Needs Plan (SNP) in California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Utah and Washington.
“Dual eligibles typically receive fragmented health care. This is largely in part because administration of their services is split between the federal and state governments,” said J. Mario Molina, M.D., President and Chairman of the Board for Molina Healthcare, Inc. “As the federal government and states integrate programs for this population, Molina seeks to demonstrate significant improvements in the quality of care to the most fragmented and vulnerable populations it serves. We look forward to Michael Steele’s contributions as we build our strategy and continue to provide access to quality health care to our members.”
