The People’s Choice Awards to Be Broadcast Live on January 11th, 2012, from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live

Mark Burnett to Return as Executive Producer of People’s Choice Awards 2012

Category Voting Launches Today at www.PeoplesChoice.com

NEW YORK--()--The People’s Choice Awards, the only major awards show where fans determine the nominees and winners across categories of music, movies and television, will air live from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. Award-winning producer Mark Burnett will return as Executive Producer of the telecast, which will serve as the kick-off to the 2012 awards show season.

“I love producing the People’s Choice Awards and I am so glad to be back for the 2012 show,” said Mark Burnett on returning for his third consecutive year as PCA Executive Producer. “I'm proud of the buzz-worthy moments we created for this year’s Emmy Awards and speak on behalf of our entire production team when I say how much we are looking forward to taking on the PCAs once again.”

Audrey Morrissey, Jane Mun and Hyunjoo “Kimmie” Kim will join Executive Producer Mark Burnett as the 2012 People’s Choice Awards production team. Morrissey will serve alongside Burnett as an Executive Producer, with Mun as Co-Executive Producer and Kim as Line Producer of the telecast.

In People’s Choice tradition, fans will once again have the opportunity to weigh in on new People’s Choice Awards categories. Starting today, 15 categories are eligible for voting on www.PeoplesChoice.com/pca/categories and the top vote getters will be added to the pool for the 2012 show. Potential new categories include Favorite Book Adaptation (Movies), Favorite Celebreality Star (TV) and Favorite Concert Tour (Music), among others. Fans also have the opportunity to write in their own submissions.

“Our categories evolve each year to reflect the constantly changing popular culture,” said Fred Nelson, President of People’s Choice. “In 1977, for example, Carol Burnett triumphed over Donny & Marie and The Captain & Tennille for Favorite TV Variety Show. You can’t get more ’70s than that. While in 2008, the third installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise beat out The Bourne Ultimatum and Spider-Man 3 for Favorite Movie Threequel, a category we created specifically for that year. We’re letting the fans help us choose new categories for 2012; after all, their passion for entertainment is the heart and soul of the People’s Choice Awards.”
