Charles F. Kettering III Elected New Chair of the Board of Trustees at Kettering University

FLINT, Mich.--()--Charles F. Kettering III, president of the Ridgeleigh Management Company of Wilmington, Del., was elected chair of the Kettering University Board of Trustees during the board’s annual meeting Sept. 9. Kettering will lead the board for a two-year term. He previously served a two-year term as vice chair of the board.

“I am very honored to be chosen for this position,” Kettering said. “There is a new sense of momentum on campus with the recent appointment of Dr. Robert K. McMahan as President and I look forward to helping move things forward.”

Kettering replaces Gary L. Cowger ’70, retired group vice president of Global Manufacturing and Labor at General Motors, who completed his two-year term as board chair at September’s meeting. Cowger, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was thanked for his leadership and presented with a special award of recognition and appreciation during the board meeting.

William R. Hartman, president of York County Foundation in York, Penn., became the new vice chairman of the board and will serve a two-year term.

Jacqueline A. Dedo ’84, chief strategy and procurement officer at Dana Holding Corp. in Toledo, Ohio, was re-elected secretary for a two-year term. Completing the slate of officers are Susan K. Bolt, Kettering’s vice president of Administration and Finance, as treasurer, and Susan M. Fleckenstein, assistant to Kettering President Robert K. McMahan, as the assistant secretary to the board.

Also honored during the meeting was Trustee Robert E. Swaney of Grosse Pointe, Mich., as he retired from the board. Swaney’s volunteer service began in 1996 as a special adviser to the Investment Committee. He served as a trustee from 1999 until retiring at the Sept. 9 board meeting.

Kettering’s Board of Trustees currently has 37 members.
