Physician with Wide-Ranging Expertise Joins GlobalMed as Chief Medical Director

Dr. Richard Nevins has helped improve healthcare both nationally and internationally

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--Richard L. Nevins, M.D., FAAFP, who has spent 35 years improving healthcare in the United States, will oversee the expansion of the clinical applications of telemedicine at GlobalMed, the industry-leading telemedicine design, manufacturing and marketing company, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition, Dr. Nevins will be available to respond to questions about telemedicine and will blog on the GlobalMed Web site about topics involving the healthcare community.

In making the announcement, GlobalMed Managing Director Joel E. Barthelemy said, “We are honored to have Dr. Nevins join our outstanding team. He will provide his clinical, evidence-based compass to guide our development on what matters to physicians who deliver healthcare around the world.”

Dr. Nevins has designed and developed telemedicine and Internet healthcare systems. He was responsible for clinical knowledge bases and co-responsible for software design of clinical care decision applications while serving as Medical Director for National Health Enhancement Systems and as Vice-President of Medical Affairs for HBO & Company. Throughout his medical career, he has helped design, implement and enhance healthcare solutions in the United States and other countries.

His international work includes serving on committees of the Pan American Health Organization, World Health Organization, Caribbean Latin American Action, Americas’ Healthnet, Center for Telemedicine Law, the InterAmerican Bank and URAC. He and his wife have funded medical clinics in Central America and Nepal and have coordinated and led healthcare teams to Central America where he has personally treated more than 10,000 indigent and rural patients.

Dr. Nevins received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma and did his post-graduate training in emergency medicine. He has been a diplomate of the American Board of Family Physicians and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. And he has helped educate other physicians at the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he was a Clinical Instructor in Emergency Medicine and Family Practice.
