MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Entellus Medical, a Minnesota-based medical technology company, today announced the launch of its PathAssist™ Light Seeker™ at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in San Francisco. The Light Seeker, which received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2011, enables ENT physicians to easily confirm correct entry to the frontal sinus recess and location of the frontal sinus, helping streamline procedures such as sinus irrigation and endoscopic sinus surgery.
When the Light Seeker is inserted into the nose of a sinusitis patient, a bright light at the tip of the Light Seeker can be seen through the patient’s skin, allowing the physician to follow and visually confirm entry to and location of the frontal recess and sinus. The Light Seeker’s reusable, cost-effective design suggests a frontal seeker, a tool commonly utilized by ENT physicians to access the complex sinus passages. The Light Seeker may be used in conjunction with CT image-guidance or direct endoscopic visualization of the sinuses as a low cost alternative tool to confirm the pathway into the frontal sinus.
“Our new PathAssist Light Seeker provides ENT physicians with a general-use light-based confirmation tool that may be efficiently incorporated into their office or operating room procedures,” said Brian Farley, CEO of Entellus Medical. “We believe there is tremendous demand among these physicians for an intuitive, easy-to-use tool for navigating the sinus passages, and we are excited to be able to meet that need.”
