NORTHBROOK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hilco Trading, LLC, the privately-held financial and operational services firm headquartered in Northbrook, IL, was today recognized by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for donating academic quality books valued at approximately $130,000 to the Chicago Public School System. The mayor offered his thanks to Hilco and Chairman/CEO, Jeffrey B. Hecktman, at Carl Schurz High School, where he and other local leaders held a panel discussion on education. Joining the mayor were Sen. Dick Durbin, Gov. Pat Quinn, State Sen. Kimberly Lightford, Chicago public schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard and representatives of teachers unions, school management and community advocacy groups.
Hilco’s donation of more than 8,000 books included titles covering science, math, poetry, travel, hobbies, Chicago history, business, computers, careers, politics, law and more. The books were hand-selected and purchased by Hilco from Borders Book Stores across the U.S.
“Our company has enjoyed great success over the years, largely due to the incredibly intelligent people who manage it,” said Jeff Hecktman. “We believe that education, above all other factors, is the foundation of commercial success and so we have decided to do what we can to help ensure American children receive the best education possible.” He added, “The book donation was only our first step in a continuing commitment to align our corporate resources with the needs of public education.”
