LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kentucky American Water will begin construction work this week in Lexington on a water main improvement project along Transylvania Park from Maxwell Street to Rose Lane. The project will involve replacing existing 6-inch- and 4-inch-diameter cast iron mains that date back to the 1930s. The project is being conducted as part of the company’s ongoing investment in water utility infrastructure to ensure quality, reliable water service for less than a penny a gallon. The total cost of the Transylvania Park project is approximately $350,000.
The project contractor is scheduled to begin along the south-bound lane of Transylvania Park the week of Sept. 6. The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2011, weather permitting.
This Transylvania Park effort is one of several pipeline improvements conducted this year. Examples of other projects already completed in 2011 include water main upgrades on West Short Street, Hanover Court and North Broadway in Lexington, as well as a sewer line upgrade on Adair Street in Owenton, for a total investment of approximately $3.8 million.
Additional projects currently under construction or beginning construction in Lexington are water main upgrades on Penmoken Park, Morgan Avenue/Oakhill Drive, Harry Street, Venice Park, Florida Street and Bellaire Avenue. These waterline improvements total approximately $1.75 million in capital investment.
