FÖRSLÖV, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News:
As one of the first construction companies, Peab (STO:PEABB) has decided to carry out an environmental certification for an entire city district. Varvsstaden in Malmö is a different place, where Kockums former shipyard area has been transformed into an entirely new district on the city side of the Western Harbour in Malmö.
The work to realize the vision of Varvsstaden has just begun. In the next years to come, Peab together with Malmö City will develop the former industrial area around Kockums Shipyard. The ambition is to put the environment and sustainability in mind. With Peab's decision to certify the environmental district, clear goals are created.
This certification is made under BREEAM Communities, which includes social, ecological and economic sustainability and assesses eight areas such as climate and energy, urban planning and biodiversity.
- For those who will move to Varvsstaden we can offer accommodation and work areas that meet high environmental standards. This creates exciting contrasts between old and new, street life and activities, says Karin Månsson, Peab's project manager for Varvsstaden.
Together with the City of Malmö and BREEAM certification Peab now creates a manual to be used in future work.
Peab's goal is to be a pioneer in sustainable building and has decided to environmental certification of all new projects in residential and commercial properties
- Peab gets through the work with Varvsstaden knowledge that can be applied in future urban development, says Peab's environmental manager Kristina Gabrielli.
Peab is one of 22 community actors who are now beginning to establish a common way to work around sustainable districts. Today, September 5, begins a seminar on sustainable urban development in Umeå. It then continues with workshops in Stockholm, Norrköping, Göteborg and Malmö. As one point in the program, Peab tells more about the certification work of Varvsstaden.
Peab is one of the leading construction and civil engineering companies in the Nordic countries with 15,000 employees and a net sale amounting to around SEK 40 billion. The Group’s subsidiaries have strategically located offices in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The share is listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm. The registered office of the Group is at Förslöv, Skåne in south of Sweden.
