Dr. Darm and Aesthetic Medicine Are Proud to Announce Their Platinum Partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Dr. Darm, Aesthetic Medicine, proudly announces their year-round Platinum Level Partnership with the Oregon & SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. This partnership illustrates Dr. Darm’s commitment to raising awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

PORTLAND, Ore.--()--Dr. Darm of Aesthetic Medicine joins the ranks of thousands of supporters with his year-round pledge of partnership to the Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Dr. Darm has become a leader in promoting weight loss and healthy lifestyles; platinum level partnership with Susan G. Komen is an important step in furthering this commitment.

This year marks the 20th Annual Komen Portland Race for the Cure, September 18, 2011. The Race for the Cure is the Affiliate’s largest fundraising and breast cancer awareness event. The Race for the Cure provides funding for critical programs including Komen’s free mammogram screenings for uninsured women, education for early detection and survivor support.

“It's clear that Komen’s work has made a difference for women and men with breast cancer,” said Dr. Darm. “Mortality rates from breast cancer are down 31 percent in 20 years -- this is due in large part to the important educational efforts of Susan G. Komen.”

There are many women in the Northwest who are in need of Komen’s services. In fact, 57,000 women in Oregon are eligible for Komen's free screening program, but there are only enough funds to screen 8,000 of the women who qualify for this life-saving program. In addition, the five-year survival rates for early stage cancers have increased to 98%; this is up from 74% when Komen first began this work.

“There are still many women who don’t understand their risks, or are simply too frightened to seek information,” said Dr. Darm. “Komen’s efforts to educate women about early detection are literally saving lives. We are honored to partner with Susan G. Komen and support their efforts to create a world without breast cancer.”

Dr. Darm opened Aesthetic Medicine in 1995. Initially specializing in weight loss, he expanded his services to include hair removal and rosacea treatments in 1997. Since that time, new services have been added yearly to promote health, wellness and beauty. Dr. Darm graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His medical training was obtained at OHSU.
