Beginning on October 9 in more than 430 select movie theaters, with additional performances in February and spring 2012, LA Phil LIVE season two will offer an intimate glimpse inside Walt Disney Concert Hall with world-renowned Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. The series of performances will showcase some of classical music’s most talented and dynamic performers. Also, in a rare live broadcast from Caracas, Venezuela, Dudamel will lead more than 1,000 musicians for Mahler 8, “Symphony of a Thousand,” conducting the two organizations that feature so prominently in his life: the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.

Tickets for LA Phil LIVE’s season two in-theater events will be available on Friday, August 19 at participating theater box offices and online at www.fathomevents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and ticket prices, please visit the website (theaters and participants are subject to change). LA Phil LIVE will be shown in select movie theaters through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

LA Phil LIVE offers an enriching and unique concert experience in which the orchestra is captured with 5.1 digital surround sound and high definition cameras, featuring top talent and behind-the-scenes segments. Led by vibrant Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and broadcast to select movie theaters across the U.S., the LA Phil LIVE series transports audiences to the conductor’s podium and places them inside the music. Each broadcast includes an insider’s look via the Backstage Pass feature, with live behind-the-scenes interviews with Dudamel, soloists and LA Phil musicians and exclusive rehearsal footage. This season, enhanced behind-the-scenes content will also include unique footage from Venezuela.

“Hearing an orchestra live is an all-encompassing experience that everyone should be able to have,” said Dudamel. LA Phil LIVE allows people to have that access – it’s almost like being in Walt Disney Concert Hall or like taking a trip to Caracas, Venezuela, and feeling the energy of the performance first-hand. I’m very proud to be able to share the magic of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.”

The 2011-2012 LA Phil LIVE series schedule* is as follows:

Sunday, October 9, 2011– 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern
LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Mendelssohn
with Janine Jansen

This all-Mendelssohn program features three of the beloved composer’s most evocative and romantic works. The descriptive Hebrides Overture and the “Scottish” Symphony are musical souvenirs of Mendelssohn’s 1829 vacation in Scotland and the Hebrides islands. Dutch violin virtuoso Janine Jansen joins Dudamel and the LA Phil for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, a work she has recorded to great acclaim.

Saturday, February 18, 2012– 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern
LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Mahler 8
Live from Caracas, Venezuela

Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, combined with multiple choirs and soloists in Mahler’s “Symphony of a Thousand” (No. 8), the apotheosis of the Romantic symphony. This live performance will put more than 1,000 musicians on the stage in Caracas, Venezuela, giving North American audiences a chance to witness Dudamel making music on his home turf. Enhanced behind-the-scenes content will include special footage from Caracas. This exceptional presentation is the climactic performance of The Mahler Project – one of the pinnacles of the LA Phil’s season – which features Mahler’s complete symphonic cycle presented in both Los Angeles and Caracas.
