FOX’s Teen Choice Awards Sparks Real-Time Fan Interaction on ChaCha

Teens choose to start conversations with ChaCha about their favorite celebs during the awards show

INDIANAPOLIS--()--ChaCha, the #1 free real-time question-and-answer service, has emerged as a top destination for curious multi-tasking users to interact with entertainment content in real time. During FOX’s Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, August 7, ChaCha.com saw dramatic increases in traffic with interactive online galleries and features about the winning celebrities and presenters being among the most popular content accessed across the ChaCha network.

This high level of fan interaction during the awards show comes as no surprise considering ChaCha’s interactive and influential youthful audience. According to a June 2011 survey of ChaCha’s users, 29% admitted that their favorite time to use the service is while watching TV. ChaCha’s millions of monthly online users are 55% more likely to fall within the ages of 12-24, as compared to the rest of the Web users, according to expert audience measurement provider comScore’s Media Demographic Profile report. Below are some youth entertainment related characteristics of ChaCha’s audience that significantly outpace the overall Internet population (as measured by comScore’s Plan Metrix Site Audience profile report):

  • MTV 239% more likely to be their favorite TV channel
  • 176% more likely to be readers of Seventeen Magazine
  • 110% more likely to be first among their friends to see new movies
  • 81% more likely to adopt new music before their friends

The most popular stars of the weekend were Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Eminem, and Taylor Swift. Traffic to the Selena Gomez photo gallery increased over 1900%, which handily beat out her love interest Justin Bieber’s top performing gallery that saw a 334% increase and features images of him growing up. Taylor Swift was ChaCha’s big winner during the Teen Choice Awards. Her fashion trends gallery saw an uptick in visits of 975%, making it the most popular page of the night across all of ChaCha.

“As ChaCha continues its rapid online and mobile growth, it’s fascinating to observe our users interacting with and reacting to news and events as they happen live,” says ChaCha CEO Scott Jones. “The unique twist with this trend among ChaCha users, though, is that they’re incredibly open-minded and inquisitive, revealing what piques their interest by asking us questions rather than only broadcasting their observations. This plays a huge part in how deeply engaged our audience has proven to be for advertisers.”

Also popular were quizzes about the popular stars; the most popular quizzes following the Teen Choice Awards were a Justin Bieber rumors quiz, a Justin Bieber superfan quiz, and an Eminem quiz.

ChaCha users were engaged with the Teen Choice Awards even before the event began, asking questions related to their favorite stars. During the TCA’s and after, ChaCha users were asking the messaging service for more information about the artists, including the following questions:
