UCI Forum Elects Two New Members to Its Board of Directors

Expanded Board Will Focus on Moving UC Interoperability Forward with Emphasis on Devices and Video Conferencing Applications

ITEXPO WEST 2011

SAN RAMON, Calif.--()--The Unified Communications Interoperability Forum (UCI Forum) today announced the election of two new members to its board of directors. The new directors are Yair Wiener from RADVISION (Nasdaq: RVSN) and Ashish Gupta from Vidyo. With the new additions to its board of directors, the UCI Forum continues to expand its charter of addressing interoperability and certification of unified communications (UC) solutions.

Both RADVISION and Vidyo are known pioneers in video conferencing technology. Wiener serves as RADVISION chief technology officer, and he also chairs the UCI Forum’s H.264 SVC task group. He joined RADVISION in 2001 and is responsible for accelerating the company’s technological strategy and ensuring its continued growth through innovation. Gupta is chief marketing officer and senior vice president of corporate development at Vidyo. Gupta joined Vidyo in early 2011, from Microsoft, where he was an integral member of Microsoft Office Division’s UC group.

“With the election of additional board members, the UCI Forum is drawing from the experience of its member companies and the value they add to the forum’s activities,” said Bernard Aboba, president of UCI Forum. “RADVISION’s and Vidyo’s expertise in videoconferencing, and particularly in SVC, will be extremely valuable as we move forward with our testing and certification programs.”

UC Interoperability Gaining Momentum

Having recently celebrated its first anniversary, the UCI Forum is making continuous strides to enabling standards-based, inter-vendor UC interoperability. Launched in May 2010 with 17 inaugural members, the Forum now comprises 38 companies offering UC solutions – from software and hardware solutions to service providers and UC platform vendors. Since its founding, the forum has celebrated a number of milestones including its USB Webcam recommendation, which was recently adopted by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) Video Work Group.

UC interoperability momentum is growing with the identification and qualification of testing and certification labs. An RFP for these test labs is now completing final review, and the Test and Certification Work Group expects to have completed contracts with the initial lab vendors in early 2012, enabling full UC certification processes to commence later in 2012. Initial certifications are planned for USB Audio Devices as well as H.264 SVC interoperability.

Annual Member Meeting

The UCI Forum will host its second annual all-member meeting Sept. 13 – 14 in Austin, Texas (co-located with IT EXPO West). The UCI Forum is an open, industry alliance that works with its members to fully leverage customers’ investments in communications systems and unite their global organizations.
