PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Host nation Trinidad and Tobago walked away overall tournament winner, proudly hoisting the Arthur Zaidie trophy in the just-concluded first-ever RBC Royal Bank-sponsored Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC 2011).
This was the first title sponsorship undertaken by the Caribbean Banking operations of RBC since the launch of its new RBC Royal Bank brand in June. RBC Royal Bank was the tournament’s only sponsor in the financial services category.
From August 1-6th, Trinidad and Tobago hosted teams from the Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the OECS, Puerto Rico and Turks & Caicos, as the Caribbean’s top amateur golfers pursued victory in the following categories:
1. Men Over 50 Competition (Francis & Steele-Perkins Trophy)
2. Men Over 60 Competition (Higgs & Higgs Trophy)
3. Men Over 35 Competition (Ramon Baez Trophy)
4. Ladies’ Open Competition (George Teale Memorial Trophy)
5. Men’s Open Competition (Hoerman Cup)
6. Overall Team Competition (Arthur Zaidie Trophy)
The Puerto Rican national team captured the Higgs and Higgs Trophy, while denying defending champion Barbados from retaining the coveted Hoerman Cup in the Men’s Open Competition. The Arthur Zaidie trophy for Overall Team Competition went to Trinidad and Tobago, which also earned the Ramon Baez Trophy, the Francis & Steele-Perkins Trophy and the George Teale Memorial Trophy. Running second was Puerto Rico, followed by Dominican Republic in third place.
The final day’s play was injected with additional flavour as players teed off for RBC’s “Birdies for Charity” initiative: by the end of the day, TT$75,000 was raised for the RBC/RBTT Caribbean Children’s Cancer Fund and RBC contributed additional funds towards each team’s designated charity in their home country, also based on the number of birdies made.
RBC Royal Bank operates in the majority of countries that participated in CAGC 2011.
