SANTA CLARITA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BioSolar, Inc. (OTCBB: BSRC), developer of a breakthrough technology to produce bio-based materials from renewable plant sources that reduce the cost of photovoltaic (PV) solar modules, reported that the company is collaborating with multiple PV panel manufacturers to introduce PV panels incorporating BioBacksheet at the upcoming GovGreen Conference.
The GovGreen Conference, sponsored by the Center for Environmental Innovation and Leadership, will be held on November 30 – December 1 in Washington, DC. This conference is intended for the benefit of government purchasing personnel so they can be introduced to products which are green in nature.
PV panels using the BioBacksheet are greener than standard PV modules because, in addition to reducing petroleum usage in operation, they also reduce petroleum use in manufacturing. The USDA BioPreferred Program operates under Presidential Executive Order 13514. This program mandates preferential consideration by all government agencies of products which are certified by the USDA to be substantially “green” (not petroleum based). The BioBacksheet is the only product of its type which has this certification.
“Some of BioSolar’s potential customers are responding to proposals from the U.S. Government where BioBacksheet’s USDA BioPreferred designation offers a significant enhancement. This is a very important development for BioSolar and allows us to engage in focused marketing and sales activities before mainstream PV panel manufacturers obtain PV panel certification from UL,” said Dr. David Lee, the company's CEO.
“BioBacksheet is currently undergoing RTI test cycle using a known control film having a much higher RTI than what is required for backsheets. The mechanical and electrical properties of BioBacksheet have to degrade at least 50% of its original value before UL can issue a provisional RTI. According to an intermediate UL report, BioBacksheet’s mechanical and electric properties are closely following those of the control film in the accelerated thermal endurance testing,” said Dr. Stanley Levy, the company’s CTO.
