CCID Consulting Depicts China's E-commerce Industry Layout and Route Map of E-commerce in Urban Areas

BEIJING--()--CCID Consulting Co., Ltd. formally released China E-Commerce Industry Map White Paper on July 19, 2011 that evaluates the development of e-commerce in China’s different regions, provinces and cities.

A number of world-famous e-commerce enterprises have emerged in China after a rapid development of e-commerce in the last decade, with the e-commerce trading volume and user quantity still on the rise. Along with the high-speed development of the e-commerce market, the Chinese government has recognized the positive role of e-commerce in boosting country’s emerging industries of strategic importance, and e-commerce has become key for the economic transformation and industrial restructuring.

China’s top 10 active cities in e-commerce are all located in the eastern coastal area and Southwestern China, with Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Chengdu & Chongqing taking the lead. From 1999 to 2000, the former State Council Information Office recognized Changchun, Tianjin, Qingdao, Ningbo and Xiamen as the first batch of pilot cities for e-commerce; Guangzhou, Chongqing and Changsha were chosen as the country’s pilot cities for mobile e-commerce in 2007; while in 2009, Shenzhen was recognized by National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce as China's only demonstration city for e-commerce.

Specifically, the Bohai Rim Region in Northern China has given full play to the Beijing’s geopolitical advantages to accelerate the development of e-commerce in cities surrounding Beijing; the Yangtze River Delta, leveraging the financial resources of Shanghai and the e-commerce service resources of SMEs in Hangzhou, intends to fully utilize its capital advantages and extend the SME service chain; the Pearl River Delta with the information service and Internet industry-oriented Shenzhen City and the trade, distribution and civil use-oriented Guangzhou City as the center is striving to grow into an e-commerce center in Asia Pacific; the inland Chengdu & Chongqing has come to realize that the bottleneck of regional economy development could be broken only through the development of e-commerce and modern logistics services.

In future, China's e-commerce industry layout will see the following three trends. First, the eastern coastal area with its strong economic capabilities, well-developed information industry, as well as leading companies and a complete supporting system will continue to be the core area of China's e-commerce industry. Second, with a nationwide industrial transfer and the progress of the state’s Western Development Program, Rise of Central China Program and the rejuvenation program of Northeastern China and other old industrial bases, Central China, Western China and Northeastern China would also develop new regional e-commerce centers in their major cities. Last, provinces and cities all over China would leverage their respective regional advantages and accelerate the integration of e-commerce with their unique local industries.

Based on an in-depth study on China's e-commerce layout and evolution, CCID Consulting deems that quite a few new e-commerce demonstration cities and industrial parks will emerge gradually in future. CCID Consulting suggests the governmental authorities pay attention to the choice of carrier industries for e-commerce and support the development of e-commerce in such aspects as related facilities and resources, supportive policies, talent attraction, coordination, financing services and cooperation. As such, the coming decade will surely witness a flourishing age of China’s e-commerce industry.
