AUSTIN, Texas--()--RF Code, a leading provider of active IT asset management and wire-free environmental and power monitoring solutions, today introduced a tethered temperature sensor. The new sensor, the R151, provides deployment flexibility that enables accurate temperature monitoring of critical areas that are not conducive to traditional sensor placement. Such areas range from industrial refrigerators housing expensive drugs to the area below a raised floor in a data center. View video.

“Different organizations have different needs for precise temperature monitoring,” said Chris Gaskins, Vice President of Product Development, RF Code. “While their needs may differ, they all often face common sensor placement problems including harsh environments, difficult to reach places, and RF-blocking enclosures, such as metal ductwork or freezers. Our new tethered sensor solves these deployment challenges.”

The R151 sensor is based on the same active RFID technology that underlies all RF Code sensors, eliminating the need to use cabling for deployment. Such wire-free installation means deployments aren’t restricted by wiring requirements. As a result, the new tethered sensor has a double deployment advantage: no cabling to the infrastructure and easy deployment in enclosed or hard to reach areas.

The sensor is part of RF Code’s environmental monitoring solution, which fully automates the capturing of sensor data, including temperature, humidity, fluid detection, power usage, air pressure and more.

About the R151 Tethered Temperature Sensor

The R151 Tethered Temperature Sensor includes an RF transmitter with a 5-year battery life that monitors and reports the temperature observed by a digital thermometer that is embedded at the end of a 6-foot tether. This modular design provides for physical separation between the RF transmitter and the sealed temperature sensor itself. The RF transmitter will periodically report its own unique ID, along with the temperature observed by the sensor (updated every 20 seconds). This form factor is particularly well-suited for environments where the RF transmitter module is mounted in open space while the temperature sensor is routed into difficult to reach places, such as above a suspended ceiling or inside HVAC air ducts.
