NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Axion International (OTCBB:AXIH), a leading producer of industrial building products and railroad ties made from 100% recycled plastic, announced it has received three additional purchase orders from Australia in the past 30 days for a combined $130,000. The orders relate to Axion’s innovative Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) railroad ties, referred to as sleepers in Australia.
“These orders support the use of our innovative recycled plastic technology in locations around the world,” stated Jim Kerstein, Axion’s Chief Technology Officer. “By utilizing our patented material, designed from 100% recycled plastic, we will be diverting another 150,000 pounds of plastic that would normally end up in landfills for these three orders alone. Not only do we help our clients reduce their carbon foot-prints, we simultaneously give them the opportunity to invest in a superior sleeper that is expected to last significantly longer than its wooden sleeper alternatives.”
Supplementing Axion’s first order to Australia in March, Axion’s three additional purchase orders bring the total number of orders to the country to four. The composite sleepers of various sizes are to be used as a replacement for wooden sleepers in Western Australia.
Axion’s proprietary Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) material is inert and contains no toxic materials. It is impervious to insect infestation, will never leach toxic chemicals nor warp. Because it is lighter than traditional materials, transporting RSC is less expensive and reduces energy costs. In addition, Axion’s products are completely recyclable at the end of their functional life.
