YouTube Sensation Orabrush Honored for Revenue Growth as Top 25 Emerging Company

  • Two-Year-Old Company Makes Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum’s Top 25 Under 5 List for the First Time, Nabbing the 14th Spot

PROVO, Utah--()--Orabrush today announced the company was awarded the 14th spot on the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum’s (UVEF) Top 25 Under 5 list, an award given to young entrepreneurs and emerging Utah-based companies based on revenue and job creation.

“At Orabrush, we have succeeded because our ‘Reverse Marketing Model’ approach has bucked traditional methods, and we couldn’t be more pleased to be recognized on this exclusive list,” said Jeff Davis, CEO of Orabrush. “Our company’s rapid rise is directly correlated to our willingness to employ the latest technologies and embrace creativity in business. Orabrush proves that you can use the Internet, the biggest entrepreneurial stage of all, as a launching pad to reach and connect with a worldwide audience.”

Long retired as a biochemist and nutritionist, Robert Wagstaff (“Dr. Bob”) invented the Orabrush tongue cleaner in his basement workshop as a way to combat bad breath emanating from the tongue. For eight years, Wagstaff was unable to find an audience for his tongue cleaner as forays into retail and TV infomercials proved unfruitful. It wasn’t until 2009, when the 75-year-old joined forces with 26-year-old forward-thinking BYU marketing student Jeffrey Harmon, that Orabrush took off. A YouTube video produced by Harmon marketing the product as the cure to bad breath went viral, and Orabrush has gone on to become an Internet phenomenon, amassing over 290,000 Facebook fans and more than 38 million YouTube channel views.

Orabrush has translated its online success to offline markets – the product can now be found in over 9 countries and more than 5,000 store locations worldwide.

To be eligible for the UVEF Top 25 Under 5, Utah-based companies must be five years old or younger. Previous recipients of the award include ZAGG, Omniture, Xango and many others.
