Poland’s Netia Selects Jungo Software for Gateway Rollout

  • Jungo technology enables Netia to offer enriched experience to subscribers
  • New gateway device to bring enhanced services to Netia customers
  • Netia embraces hardware / software separation to gain full control, flexibility and unified experience on all hardware platforms

LONDON--()--Jungo Ltd., a leading provider of software solutions for residential gateways, today announced that Polish broadband access and digital TV provider, Netia SA, has selected Jungo‘s OpenRG™ residential gateway software for the rollout of its new ADSL gateway device - Netia Spot™.

The new Netia Spot device will improve the online experience for Netia subscribers across Poland by delivering a range of enhanced services. Compatible with legacy and future platforms, Jungo's OpenRG gateway software will allow Netia to develop new services and features once across its entire installed base, providing greater control over its CPE hardware selection and reducing cost.

As one of Poland’s largest service providers, Netia provides ADSL connectivity and digital content to hundreds of thousands of subscribers in one of the largest and most dynamic digital markets in Eastern Europe. With the flexibility provided by OpenRG, Netia is now able to quickly respond to changing market conditions and subscriber needs to introduce new services and maintain their market position.

Piotr Nesterowicz, COO at Netia said: “Poland is on a path of rapid technology adoption, meaning that the demand from operators to deliver more value to subscribers is growing by the day. As digital content becomes more accessible to more users, we saw a clear benefit in using Jungo’s gateway software to help us respond effectively to consumer requirements. Jungo allows us to employ a single, unified software layer on all existing devices as well as any new ones launched in the future, regardless of the hardware or chipset provider. This helps us to drive revenue from our broadband offering through the rapid and cost-effective introduction of new and innovative products and services to our subscribers.”

Eran Rom, Jungo's CEO said: “Netia clearly understands the value of the connected home in giving subscribers the experience they want. Netia has also recognised the business value in being able to make independent decisions about the software and hardware components in its platform. With a greater degree of control over its subscriber offering, Netia is in a prime position to grow its market share through enriched services and an enhanced digital experience, and we believe that the versatility of the Netia Spot is set to play a key role in the company’s future growth and success.”

Netia will use the flexibility offered through Jungo’s software to launch a number of new subscriber-focused services, including a new customer support application to significantly reduce the frequency and length of customer support calls whilst substantially improving the customer's experience. They will also introduce file-sharing capability and a media server for storing all types of digital content such as movies, photos or music tracks. The Spot gateways will also create a public WiFi network, offering its subscribers free Internet access on the go and roaming capabilities. By partnering with the WiFi sharing community FON, Netia will be able to provide this shared Internet access to its users, allowing them to browse the Internet via millions of access points worldwide. The new gateway will also support 3G communications providing additional ways for users to connect.

The Netia Spot device incorporating Jungo’s technology was officially launched in June 2011.
