CENTER VALLEY, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aesculap Implant Systems announced the availability of the new Hydrolift Vertebral Body Replacement (VBR) System. This engineering breakthrough provides surgeons with a stable, bone preserving construct for treatment of burst fractures and tumor removal of the thoracolumbar spine. The Hydrolift VBR offers the surgeon more flexibility, advanced technology, and tactile feedback during expansion due to hydrostatic distraction and the unique endplate design.
Hydrolift is the only VBR to use hydrostatic force for distraction to minimize vertebral body endplate damage and optimize tactile feedback. Applied pressure to the endplates is available via a digital read out in Bar and PSI. Additionally, Hydrolift has an expansion range of 21 to 94 mm to address the needs of one and two vertebral bodies. The advanced endplate design allows for in-situ angulation of +/- 10 degrees to precisely match the patient’s anatomic need. This feature allows the VBR to “find its own home” while eliminating the tedious step of removing the VBR to change the footplate angulation. The unique shape provides a proper balance of load transfer in the vertebral body’s region of high bone density, while optimizing area for bone growth. Spikes provide immediate stability and the unique Plasmapore® coating accentuates long term fixation.
The Hydrolift VBR is indicated for use in the thoracolumbar spine, T1 to L5, for partial or total replacement of a collapsed, damaged or unstable vertebral body due to tumor or trauma. The system is intended for use with supplemental spinal fixation systems such as the Aesculap S4®, S4 Element®, and MACS TL® systems. The Aesculap Hydrolift VBR System may be used with bone graft. The system is designed to provide anterior spinal column support even in the absence of fusion for a prolonged period. “The Hydrolift is an exciting addition to Aesculaps’ tumor/trauma product portfolio. The unique features of this device allow surgeons to provide a new level of patient care,” said Chuck DiNardo, President of Aesculap Implant Systems.
