SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Ngai Nguyen, the Vice Secretary of the Democratic Party of Vietnam, today thanked Senator Jim Webb for sponsoring and the United States Senate for passing a resolution expressing “grave concerns” over the repeated use of force by China to assert maritime territorial claims in the South China Sea within 200 nautical miles of Vietnam’s continental shelf.
Shortly after Senator Webb assumed chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee in July 2009, Dr. Ngai met with the Senator to discuss the increased tensions developing between China and Vietnam. At that time, Senator Webb confirmed his thinking that the U.S. should keep the diplomatic balance, diplomatically, in the Southeast Asia area.
Dr. Ngai and the Democratic Party of Vietnam again today offered its full support to Senator Webb and will continue to work with him in his on-going efforts to facilitate a multilateral, peaceful process to resolve these disputes in a manner consistent with customary international law.
