BRECKSVILLE, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MedData, a leading provider of medical billing services, announced today the appointment of Brenda N. Brown, CPC, CPC-I, to the post of director of compliance audits and education.
In this newly created position, Brown will report directly to Hal Watz, M.D., MedData’s chief medical officer. She will be responsible for providing ongoing documentation, training and education to MedData’s clinical and coding staff to ensure operational compliance and optimal reimbursement. She will also oversee and monitor federal and state intermediary agencies documentation and coding policy changes that affect emergency medicine and other various medical specialties for which MedData bills on behalf of its clients.
Brown brings more than 20 years of related healthcare risk management, compliance and auditing experience to her new role. Most recently she served as coding director for MBI Solutions, Inc.: a provider of coding, billing and accounts receivable management services for emergency physician practices and hospitals, based in Kettering, Ohio. There, she was primarily responsible for hiring and training staff in emergency medicine and hospital coding.
Previously, she was a (third semester) medical coding and nursing math instructor, and served on the faculty advisor committee at Fortis College (formerly RETS) in Centerville, Ohio, which provides educational opportunities in the medical arena. Brown taught, educated and trained medical coding and nursing students. She also instituted a mentoring program at Fortis College for academically at-risk students, which significantly improved retention. Prior, she was a certified professional coding specialist at Medical Management Professionals, Inc., a Dayton, Ohio-based provider of medical billing services and flexible practice management solutions for hospital-based doctors and medical practices.
Earlier, Brown was administrator assistant and coding specialist at Practice Management Resources, where she oversaw billing for the anesthesia department, which subsequently led her to her position as a billing manager at QUADAX, Inc. a provider to improve financial performance and operational efficiency at healthcare entities.

Brown, a resident of Bath Township, Ohio, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business and a Master of Science degree in healthcare management with a minor in biostatics, both from Phoenix University. She is a certified professional coder and licensed professional medical coding curriculum instructor through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Through the AAPC, she is also licensed nationally to proctor and administer the national certification exam. Brown is a public national seminar speaker on emergency medicine, an advocate of and published writer on cultural diversity.
She was instrumental in helping to start the AAPC Dayton Local Chapter in 2009, where she also served as president elect as well as President of the Chapter in 2010. She is currently president of the Emergency Management Organization (EMO); and has served on the board since 2004. Other professional affiliations include associate member of the Ohio American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
