LAKEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With the successful transfer of 106 patients and opening of the new Emergency Department on Fri., June 17 and a weekend spent relocating non-essential equipment to the new hospital, St. Anthony Hospital is now fully operational and serving the community. By Saturday morning there were 130 patients in the hospital.
“While it is a bittersweet event to leave the old hospital, we are committed to carrying forward our 119-year tradition of compassion and outstanding care to our new location,” said Raymond A. Mencini, M.D., president and interim CEO of St. Anthony Hospital. “This new hospital provides the opportunity to deliver outstanding care throughout the state while adapting to the future needs of the community.”
St. Anthony Hospital chose to build its newest hospital on 50 acres adjacent to the former Federal Center property near the corner of Alameda Avenue and Union Boulevard to allow for space for the new hospital, OrthoColorado Hospital and two medical office plazas, in addition to space for future growth. It was a seven-year journey to find a suitable location, to design and to build a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes the latest technology to create a patient-focused healing environment.
St. Anthony Hospital offers 222 private inpatient rooms and 14 surgical suites throughout eight floors and 560,000 square feet. The new Emergency Department is triple the size of the previous location, with 36 private rooms, additional space for consultations and families, a dedicated laboratory and the newest technology for emergency and trauma care. The hospital’s legendary Level I trauma service also will get a boost from new technology and dedicated space. Flight For Life® Colorado has already made the Lakewood facility its headquarters.
Specialized equipment is in place to reduce associate and nurse work injuries, as well as patient falls. For example, the Liko Lift system is the most comprehensive patient lift system in the region. The new St. Anthony Hospital has been recognized for its environmentally friendly design and efforts to minimize infection risks with unique features like the TransVac system for trash, recycling and linens that is the only one of its kind in the Western United States.
St. Anthony Hospital is nationally recognized for its renowned programs in trauma, cardiovascular services, oncology, neurosciences and orthopedics and is part of Centura Health, Colorado’s largest hospital and health care network.
