SYRACUSE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Systems Made Simple, Inc. (SMS), a leading provider of IT systems and services to support critical architecture, data and application challenges in the healthcare industry, announced it is part of a team that was awarded a contract under the Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). SMS, under a Contractor Teaming Arrangement with Technatomy Corporation, will be assisting the VA in completing task orders under the VA’s Enhance the Veteran Experience and Access to Healthcare (EVEAH) initiative.
The Technatomy/SMS team was selected from many competitors to provide systems management, development and support for sustaining programs and projects within the scope of EVEAH. The initial four task orders for the systems involved in EVEAH have been released, and the Technatomy/SMS team won the first task order for support of the Emergency Department Integration Software (EDIS) system. EDIS records and tracks the status of patients receiving Emergency Department care.
In collaboration with the Office of Information and Technology (OI&T), the EVEAH initiative aims to increase the responsiveness of hospital staff to the needs of veterans and their families. The program also seeks to raise veteran awareness around the VA’s Medical Benefits Package, which is available to all enrolled veterans, and eliminate disparities in access to care.
“We’re extremely honored to be a part of this ground-breaking initiative, which aims to improve a veteran’s access to care through better communication and systems integration – a campaign we’re fully dedicated to as a Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business,” says Al Nardslico, president and co-founder of SMS.
For each task order contract awarded, SMS will be responsible for:
- Software development modernization and enhancement – strategic planning, architectural analysis, software design and development to meet project objectives in compliance with all VA-approved Software Development processes, comprehensive software testing, and system deployment
- Sustainment support – providing ongoing support for software, including system administration and maintenance, end-user support and operations analysis
- Documentation – development of training materials, manuals, user guides, white papers and reports that support each project
Currently, the VA provides care to more than 5.5 million U.S. veterans each year at approximately 1,100 locations, including inpatient hospitals, healthcare centers and community-based outpatient clinics. This leaves roughly 2.5 million veterans enrolled in the VA’s Medical Benefits Package that are inactive, either because they are unable to access a care facility or benefits information. Another 15.4 million veterans are eligible but not yet enrolled in the program, often stemming from lack of awareness.
Approximately 20 additional task orders will be released and competed over the next 24 months. To learn more about the EVEAH initiative, visit VA Strategic Plan.
