Hamilton County Board of Elections Successfully Pilots Electronic Pollbook

Ohio’s Third Largest County Uses Hart ePollBook to Streamline Voter Check-In

AUSTIN, Texas--()--Hart InterCivic, a leading national provider of election management and voting systems, today announced the Hart ePollBook™ was successfully piloted in Hamilton County, Ohio during the May 3rd Primary / Special Election. Using the ePollBook, poll workers were able to locate, verify and check-in voters in less time and with greater accuracy.

The ePollBook was used to check-in voters at selected precincts in Norwood and Elmwood Place. Historically, poll workers have used a paper pollbook to lookup and verify voters which can be time-consuming and error-prone. Using the ePollBook, poll workers were able to scan a voter’s driver’s license or enter a few characters of their name to quickly locate the voter and verify their eligibility. Also, because the ePollBook stored data about registered voters in other precincts, poll workers were able to direct voters to the correct poll site.

“The pilot successfully demonstrated not only is there a viable alternative to traditional paper pollbooks, but we can accelerate the voter check-in process while ensuring voters are where they need to be,” said Sally Krisel, Director of Elections, Hamilton County, OH. “From looking up voters to determining the correct location for voters that had moved, our poll workers found the Hart ePollBook intuitive and very easy to use.”

“Hamilton County has used the Hart eScan and eSlate voting machines since 2006,” said Amy Searcy, Deputy Director of Elections, Hamilton County, OH. “We’re pleased to have evaluated the Hart ePollBook, and we will continue to explore cost-effective solutions to improve the voting experience for all stakeholders.”

“We enjoyed working with the County on their ePollBook pilot and look forward to further collaboration as we enhance our offering,” said Marcus MacNeill, vice president of products and partnerships for Hart InterCivic.
