LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Los Angeles Times Media Group (LATMG) today announced that Kathy Thomson has been appointed as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. In this newly created position, Thomson will report directly to Tribune Company President and Chief Executive Officer and Times Publisher and CEO Eddy Hartenstein and oversee the company’s growing portfolio of products, including all editorial, advertising sales, business services, marketing and operational functions.

Thomson is returning to LATMG after serving for the past 18 months as VP, Business Operations at FLO TV Incorporated, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. She was Chief of Staff at The Times from September 2008 to 2009, joining LATMG from Energy Innovations where she was the company’s Chief Operating Officer and after spending 15 years in a variety of positions at DIRECTV, culminating in the role of Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing Operations.
